Why Is Cheez It Is No Longer Allowed In The Cafeteria

Decent Essays
Due to the incident on November 14, Cheez-Its are no longer allowed in the cafeteria. We are very disappointed in the students. The cafeteria workers do not appreciate what the students have done. They do not just eat them, but also play with them. The older classman throw them at each other when no teacher is looking. After they throw them, Cheez-It crumbs are smashed onto the ground. The students have been bringing their own Cheez-It bags to the cafeteria for a while. But they went to far, November 14 was the worst day with the snack. There was Cheez-It crumbs and bags everywhere. Even the smartest, calm, good kid in the grade was joined in with everyone else in this madness.

Also, processed food is becoming a large issue. If it is not grown, it is most likely processed which is really a tragic thing. Because kids don't want carrots or apples, they want French fries and hamburgers. Obesity is a very large and rapidly growing problem in our nation. It has come to my attention that the recent obesity epidemic will soon be addressed during next week’s combined town meeting. Students from Algonquin have demanded policy change regarding the requirements for our school lunches. The food currently being offered to adolescents in the cafeteria, school store, café area, and are filled with sugars and carbohydrates, that likely promote an unhealthy diet and continued obesity. Upon watching the documentary FED UP in Health, a coalition of students will be asking for policy change, citing the movie as their evidence. FED UP argues that the worldwide epidemic of obesity is endangering our children as a result of the increased sugar consumption.…

Food is going to waste due to this and so is money. The New York Times mentioned how the meals comes off as tasteless and bland to the children and also pointed out that these regulations prevent the cafeterias from providing the children with foods that are staples of diets for children in countries with much lower rates of childhood and adult obesity than the United States (Murphy,2015). What schools should be focusing on is making the healthy food options full of flavor as well. Studies have shown that school age children need at least five portions of different…

Argument Paper II The quality of school lunches has been a debated topic throughout this past decade. While some are advocating for healthier lunch options for students, others would prefer that lunch options stay fairly the same to offer a more diverse selection of foods. The opinion article “Healthy School Lunches Under Attack: Our View” written in 2015 by USA Today is a prime example of those in favor of healthier school lunches, and on the opposing side, “Provide Flexibility in the Lunchroom: Opposing View” written by the president of the School Nutrition Association Jean Ronnei in 2015, is an article discussing the possibility of school lunch mandates going too far. The articles provide interesting points on both sides of the argument, however, after reading both articles…

It was in Peoria, an excruciating hot day. An insipid yellow light surrounded the hallways, as the unappealing smell of dirt circulated through the vents of Centennial High School. All of the students sat at their desks, wearing a very widespread variety of clothes. Each student possessed a different style of shirt, exposing some forearm or shoulder. In one classroom sat one girl who exposed her whole shoulder, due to be punished within the next minute or two.…

Every day of orientation we were told to be wary the cookies in the cafeteria, we were warned that they were the whole reason for the “freshman 15,” and that we should stay away. It became pretty clear that the whole school seems to be in love with the cafeteria’s cookies, but why? It seems to me that the student body loves these cookies not only because they are delicious, but also because of the memories that they remind people of when they eat them. Most people have fond memories of baking, decorating, and eating cookies with their family members, whether for the holidays or just for fun. As a result, most people have deep rooted appreciation for cookies along with the warmth and happiness that they bring around.…

School lunches are an issue that the federal government has taken note of. Last year Michelle Obama implemented a program called “Let’s Move” mandate for healthier foods in schools. In 2014, there is a mandate that all unhealthy non-nutrient meals be taking out of school as well as vending machines with sugary snacks and sugary beverages have been removed. The occasional fundraiser such as bake sales are allowed but when schools don’t comply like in the example of Houston, Texas High Schools they are fined, Huffington Post advised, ”TDA got serious and imposed fines totaling $73,000 on eight Houston high schools for illegal competitive food sales.” After many fines and reports the schools are fined even bigger.…

Should Schools Raise Money By Selling Candy And Sugary Soft Drinks To Students? Modern beliefs about healthy eating claim that sugary foods and drinks need to be excluded from people’s diet, yet using these kinds of snacks at schools for school fundraising have positive effects on students and school life in general. Sugary foods and drinks are profitable and beneficial for schools. They are cheap to buy for fundraisers and convenient for students and staff.…

Do you remember when we had “recess” or maybe when the teachers came into our classrooms and told us we needed to go to heritage hall before lunch? Many of the students just wanted to eat lunch but we went because we had no choice. Everyone ran down the stairs, like they regularly do. Once we got there heritage hall was very cramped for all of our sixth grade students. After everyone got in most of the students ran all over the place, and at one point someone turned off the lights and everyone started screaming.…

A lot of students do not like school lunches. Nothing against the lunch ladies ' ability to cook, but the options that come with school food are limited. It is a fact that at least one time a student has looked down at their tray and saw a slab of meat that looked like it came from a can of dog food. School lunch is unappetizing. It is super unfortunate if the food being served is something a student does not like.…

A morning edition of national public radio, titled, “Lunch Ladies Want Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act to Lighten Up” featured Jean Ronnie, president of the School Nutrition Association. I chose this because Ronnie works directly with schools, lunch ladies and makes a lot of the recipes for school lunch herself. Ronnie described one of the students favorite meals, “Fresh roasted chicken, cornbread that 's homemade, apple kohlrabi slaw and strawberries” that can no longer be served because of the sodium content. This rule among many other restricts snack and meal options for schools and students. I personally love having healthier options to choose from in the vending machines.…

One student says “Usually we go to the student store and I'll buy a bag of Cheetos...or like chips, sometimes a Gatorade, yeah" when asked what they will do when the school lunch doesn’t fill them up enough. This is a problem that is hard to deal with, because having bags of snacks that students can munch on sort of goes back on the whole idea of “healthy lunches” and has the student spending money on top of their bought lunch just to get filled up for the rest of the day. Giving students a healthy option is ideal, but having them eat something that tastes bad and won’t even fill them up doesn’t seem right. There are some arguments that some people can make as to why healthy school lunches are extremely important and why they mustn’t change.…

For my site of research I have chosen a daycare center, for which I was given permission by the director. The name of the daycare is Alpha Fundamental Pre-School. The entity that I am interested in is there after school program, for which I have ask for the eldest group available. The older after-school children were actually kept in the lower part of the school: a beautiful decorated wall of colored colorings of student’s works, drawings, a finished and glued (what looks like 5,000 piece) puzzle of a picture of wild animals in Africa, a few arts and craft of popsicle sticks models of bird houses hanging from the ceiling. There were round tables, and long tables with chairs set along the wall.…
