Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706 in Boston. His father was a candlestick maker by the name of Josiah Franklin and his mother was a homemaker by the name of Abiah Folger. He was raised a Presbyterian and was the 15th born in his family out of 17. He was also the youngest son in the family. At eight years old, he started to go to South Grammar School. In 1729 with his printing business still going he became the owner and publisher of a newspaper. He was also very involved in the community in 1730 he helped set up many organizations, including a lending library, a fire company and a police patrol. He went on to getting a job in politics later in life. In his career as an inventor, he studie electricity, ocean currents, meteorology, causes of the common cold and refrigeration. He invented the Franklin Stove and that was a good invention because it was more efficient. In 1740 he conducted some experiments and invented the lightning rod.
