When a product says, “animal testing free” what does that really mean? It could mean that the testing was performed by a different company or a hired lab. Maybe the final product was not tested but all the individual ingredients were. When buying products look for official certifications. An example is the Leaping Bunny Program which lives by the rule, “No animal testing can be used in any phase of the products development by the company, its laboratories or its suppliers” (Leaping Bunny Program). Most people do not know that there are many products that have joined the Leaping Bunny Program. Many agree that animal testing should be banned or at least decreased. Between 1973 and 2006 animal testing decreased about a half of million” (Putney 46), so lets continue that. There are many small differences we can make in our lives. First, research products and figure out how they are tested. If there is an off brand that is the same product but performs no testing, support that company. Other countries, such as Europe, has taken a stand and has saved thousand of animals from testing (Abbott). The FDA needs to step in and audit these companies conducting these experiments.
