Hello,

First off, I would like to thank you for all the hard work you put into educating my THEA 1303-001 class. I sincerely believe I have learned several significant life lessons from you, so thank you. However, this email is written primarily to communicate why I believe I should receive the grade I am asking for.

Generally speaking, I adamantly believe in working hard to complete the goals I have set out to accomplish. This year, I have been blessed with the Maverick Academic Scholarship which takes care of most of my tuition. My mother, who is in grad school, working two nursing jobs and raising three kids, has graciously offered to pay my housing fees so I may live on campus. I hope to soon earn a job that may pay off my housing fees so she does not have to worry about my finances as she completes her own education goals. In the interest of reaching this target, I have

Unfortunately, I did not realize the extent of my first semester GPA on my college career as I would then face potentially earning less than a 3.0 GPA. This would result in the permanent termination of my academic scholarship. I have inadvertently lost track of why I am attending university and am in jeopardy of assuming large consequences that I am not financially prepared to overcome. My current predicament will regrettably prove very stressful as I soon face preprofessional courses and may not have enough time to work outside of low paying on-campus opportunities. I sincerely do not believe my mother and I can continue affording UTA’s tuition and fees, despite FAFSA intervention, so we need UTA’s financial aid if I am to receive my degree soon. Nonetheless, I believe you can understand this particular dilemma seeing as I am a traditional good student with the potential to complete my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science within the next three

As a first generation undocumented college student there is great privilege and pride in attending the University of California, Santa Barbara. However with that there is also many obstacles and struggles that I have faced in order to survive and thrive in this institution, one of them is my need for financial aid. Coming from a low-income, single mother household I do not rely on my mother for financial support because I already know she struggles to feed my siblings and pay their bills. As a result I am sending my mother money on a monthly basis in order for her to complete rent for the month and afford groceries. Due to the fact that I am constantly sending my mother and household money in order to contribute to their survival, I have been working two part-time jobs while still being a full-time student in order to make my needs to be met as well.…

Even though I applied for financial aid I was denied. I came to learn that the federal formula was weighted not only by income but also by assets. So my parent’s small nest egg, a modest home with sundry repairs to come and a mortgage to be paid every month for the next ten years, counted against me. I’d attend classes during the early morning hours, late afternoons, evenings and weekends as long as it didn’t interfere with my work hours. When breaks came around, while some of my friends were off on vacation or volunteering in faraway countries, I worked extra hours.…

Being a member of the board of a scholarship committee for need-based awards does not come with simple decisions. People that work for this committee have to think about each student suffering from financial problems, along with those who stand out against the others. Having the opportunity to win up to full-tuition for college is an amazing opportunity for many students across America and if in twenty years I had the choice to award the 17-year-old me the Bruce Fishkin Scholarship, I most definitely would. I believe I greatly qualify for this life-changing award. This amount of money I could potentially earn will not only give me less stress about paying off student-loans, but will allow me to excel in my college work.…

I am extremely honored to be one of the recipients of the Annenberg-Henrich Scholarship. There will never be enough words to fully express my utmost gratitude for receiving this award when I truly needed it most. Being raised in a single parent household and having little money growing up has made me appreciate every single thing that I am given. For the past year and a half, money has been immensely tight and making ends meet has not been easy, especially since my mother’s hours were cut at her job. There was always this lingering question in the back of our minds as to whether or not would be able to pay for another semester at La Salle.…
