For my Scholar project I am going to learn about the United States Civil War. I want to become a Civil War historian, and know the significant battles, generals, dates, and other events of the war. I want to do this because I have always found the Civil War interesting, and I am fascinated by the generals on both both sides, but especially the South. I already know a little about the war, but I want to greatly expand my knowledge to far past what I know now. Right now I know a couple battles, the names of the generals, and hardly any dates. I am going to study these topics, and visit several Civil War battlefields in my area. I am going to do this because this is something that I want to know about, and it is very important to me that I find out the details and understand this tremendous United States event. In the future I might want to become a historian and this will tell me if that is the path I want to go down.

I am going to try to read a few books every month in the summer, and visit several battlefields. I am going to split it up into generals, battles, and politics, the study each through books, articles, and visitation. I am going to dedicate about three months to studying each of the sections starting in June, which will leave me to finish around March. My mentor will be my father, as he has read many Civil War books, and has a vast knowledge of the war. He can point me to great books to read and tell me interesting facts. My father has also heard stories from my grandfather, who knew many people who fought in the war, and my father owns an authentic Civil War sword.
