Why I Want To Be A Marine Corps Essay

Many people do not know what they want to do with their lives. I can honestly say that I am not one of those people. My dream job is being a member of The United States Marine Corps. I want to be a marine because I want to make a difference in the world. I want to save lives and help people. Before joining The United States Marine Corps, I must fully understand the earnings, necessary education and training, and general job description. The first thing that goes through most peoples’ minds is how much they will make in that profession. With me though, the number on my paycheck is just an afterthought. Granted marines make anywhere from $18,000-$100,000 per year, depending on rank, the amount that I will earn as a newly enlisted member pales in comparison to the dream jobs of most people. On average I will earn anywhere from $18,000-$24,000 before I am promoted. As in most jobs, every promotion comes with a pay raise and a new list of responsibilities. As a master sergeant I could make $33,000-$89,000, as a second lieutenant $35,000-$50,000, and as any one of the various majors I could earn anywhere between $52,000 and $87,000. To become a marine I need to have my high school diploma. That is the only requirement. After receiving my high school diploma, I can apply to West Point. If I want to start as an officer, however, I need to be a college graduate. After basic training, which lasts about 6 weeks, I can either become an infantry soldier or attend an Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program to get a degree. Marines that are college graduates can attend Officer Candidate School (OCS). Each of these options will give me different advantages. .
