Why I Chose To Join The National Guard

I am determined. I am at the pinnacle of driving motivation in my life. I have overcome more obstacles in my last year of life than I have in all 16 previous to it, and I haven't just overcome them, I have crushed them. I am strong because of the challenges that have pushed me down time and time again. I am a go-getter. I am an inspirer and a friend. I do not climb up at the expense of pushing others down behind me and I do not leave anyone in need behind because I know from experience how hard some obstacles can be, no matter how miniscule and insignificant they may seem from an outside point of view. For nearly every challenge I've face in my life I have faced it independently. It is because of this that I have been molded into a problem solver and a deep-thinker. …show more content…
I am here to make a change. I am here to better the lives of those around me in any way I can; that is why I chose to join the National Guard and that is why I aspire to be a doctor. In every way I can throughout my days I constantly lend my hand, my heart, my assistance to anyone and everyone that might need it. It can be as simple as picking up the potato chip bag off of the floor of the high school hallways on my way to class, or as quick as a "Good morning" and a smile to the kid with his eyes stuck to the ground in the morning. It often goes deeper than that, however. It can be trying to lift the mood of a terrified english class by volunteering first for a dull presentation that I put an otherwise comical spin on, and it can be sitting down and engaging a conversation with the frustrated online learning director with nobody else to talk to. No matter what the scenario and no matter who needs the assistance, I want to be there because helping is what I love to

My junior year in high school, I became a student mentor in our campus’s peer counseling program. This was an incredibly rewarding experience as I had the opportunity to help freshman students assimilate into our high school dynamic. As a peer mentor, I assisted students with personal problems and mediated issues with teachers in order to maximize their learning experience. I also acted as a role model for my mentees by talking frequently about AP and Honors courses and how to be successful in such programs. I put effort into learning about each individual's interests and goals so that I could expose them to clubs and academic courses that they may appreciate such as the Biomedical Academy or our school’s robotics team.…

What is life but the subtle putrescence of passion, married longingly to the increase of inhibition? I have pondered this question for some time. That, and this, "Is our actions products of our being choosing, on its own accord, to action and order? Or, are our self-attributed actions products of our biases, and infused with the repercussions of the machinations wrought by those who have come before?" For example, say I volunteer for conscription.…

In our textbook, Rachels argues that people require humility and the understanding of where they stand in the universe. He believes that we should treat people the way they deserve to be treated and that we should hope these actions are reciprocated onto us. He believes that there are multiple strategies in finding where we are in life, such as comparing one’s life to that of other’s. We must know that we are not alone in this world and that we have an obligation in taking care of others. Rachels believes that we are rewarded for our work and self-improvement, but not our luck.…

Hudson outlines the plans to a very specific world in which the weapons industry is effectively dismantled and the people’s representatives are free from bias towards big business, because as described in previous chapters his mended America involves a world where business does not have the pull on congress that it currently does. Most importantly the military must open it’s courtroom doors. I’ve heard horror stories from my family members who have served our country about things higher ups in the military have gotten away with that made me never want to join. If I lived in a world where congress represented the people and business privilege was reigned in I would support a draft requiring every able mind and bodied citizen between the ages…

In my life I have had to make many decision that I was not happy with making but the one that comes to mind at this point was when I had to make a decision on staying on active duty in the military or get off of active duty and go into the reserves. Now the reason I had to make this decision was because I had just recently got married and I did not want my wife to have to be packing up the house alone and moving everything to a new place without me. Furthermore, there was the fact that she would be moving to a place where she knew nothing about but she left the decision up to me because she said she would be happy no matter what I decided. Therefore, I feel that this situation was an approach-avoidance conflict because I would have still been…
