Wes Craven and Ingmar Bergman
This paper is supposed to be an analysis of a key filmmaker who has been informed by and influenced by earlier creators of film. According to John Kenneth Muir in his book Wes Craven: The Art of Horror (1998) Craven?s horror ?erupts full blown from the innate brutality of man?? (p 2.) One of his first films showing this being The Last House on the Left (1972). The Last House on the Left shows multiple similarities to Bergman?s The Virgin Spring. The book ?Play it Again, Sam: Retakes on Remakes? edited by Andrew Horton and Stuart Y. McDougal features an article written by Michael Brashinsky where he even goes as far as to say that the Craven?s film is a remake of Berman?s.
