Why Do Highly Talented Athletes Get Paid?

It’s the beginning of the college football season, and with a new year of sports, the annual debate of whether these highly talented athletes should be paid rises along with it. Starting with reasons of why they should be paid, they make thousands of dollars for their school, and uplift it in a way, bringing it popularity and a good reputation yet they don't get remunerated for their hard work. It is also disputed that with the number of grueling hours of work put into practice it makes nearly equivalent to a full-time job but without pay. On the opposing side, people disagree, reasoning that the athletes do get rewarded considering the free 250,000+ dollar education for free, popularity and fame, and a much higher chance of getting into pro football for being in an amateur league. The real question is not if they should be rewarded for their work, but if they're rewarded fairly for it.
