In order for the thousands of animals on earth to survive, they must adapt to their surroundings. If humans didn’t adapt to their new ways of living, they would have been struggling to survive. Many people don’t believe this because …show more content…
The English naturalist Charles Darwin was able to prove the claim of natural selection by using the finches. The many species of finches all came from one common ancestor. Overtime, they needed to change to survive, so they did. This created many different species of finches. Many people are strong believers that Darwin was wrong and that natural selection is non existent. But, his theory was proven to be one hundred percent true by the Grants who worked to prove this theory for decades. For example, there are thirteen species of finches living in the Galapagos island. At one time in history, they all looked the same. In 1977 a drought began in the islands causing some of the birds to change their food source. Since the birds eat with their beaks, some of them had adapt to the drought which caused their beaks to change. The changing of the beaks helped them survive in their environment and caused the new creation of thirteen different species of finches. Another piece of evidence that proves this is when a large rainstorm hit the Galapagos. This caused many of the finches to have to adapt to survive. Once they were adapted, they were able to evolve and reproduce so more finches could be born with a beak that would make them
