The story “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” was written by Philip K. Dick during 1968. It’s set in the bare land of San Francisco during 2021 after the destruction of World War Terminus, a radioactive devastation that killed animals and caused people to migrate to Mars. In “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” Dick emphasizes the hypocrisy of human empathy by comparing points in his novel to behavior displayed in today’s world to demonstrate true human nature. Sometimes a person can walk through life without any hesitations or questions, knowing everything, but for most, it is a battle over what is right and what is wrong. Throughout reading the second half of Phillip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Phillip K. Dick, a new theme formed in my head: Even though it may be wrong, sometimes it must be done. It is often hard to realize what the right thing to do is, especially when all the options seem wrong. Never knowing what consequences may arise, Rick Deckard, the main character, had to face these problems many times throughout the conclusion of this story.…

Using this skill set with others can ultimately give you an inside look into this person which could help you in more than just the business world. As a teen, I wasn't emotional or rather was unsure on how to express them. Introduction: Empathy is a force that can allow a person to understand other people and get a new perspective on a situation. Throughout To Kill a Mockingbird, empathy is mentioned and shown many times in the novel, a quote said by Atticus; “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view - until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” The novel is set in Maycomb County, a tiny town located in Alabama. The series of events in the book leading up to how her brother, Jem, broke his arm are narrated by Scout. The novel teaches that empathy has to be developed as you grow and people who haven’t learned to be empathetic, usually can be prejudice about people.…

In the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by P.K.D., two androids by the names of Roy and Irmgard Baty are married, a fact that provokes the question of the reasoning behind this marriage and the different themes that could be revealed through it’s existence. This analysis allows the reader to compare and contrast between this married relationship and the only other example of marriage in the novel, the marriage between Rick and Iran Deckard. The differences between the marital relationships of the Baty’s and the Deckard’s emphasizes the concept of androids being capable of compassion or empathy, while the relationships’ similarities reveals a new perspective on the author’s theme of loneliness. The marriage of Roy and Irmgard Baty can be seen as strikingly different from the marriage of Rick and Iran Deckard, outside of the fact that one couple is made up of androids and…

Humans believe to that they are at the top of the food chain because of the superior intelligence and intellect that we as humans posses. Through this, we believe that when we create something we are the rulers over them. This can be seen in the way one trains a child or domesticates an animal and through this one can see the control on wants to posses over a life or something else. When we create things, we believe them to be feats of amazement and human achievement but rather they show something much different. In the novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” by Phillip K. Dick one can see that the things we create not only learn from us but copy what we do.…

Being fixated entirely on self interest can easily cloud an individual's ability to empathize. The opposite is also true in that constantly empathizing can allow an individual to neglect themselves and prevent them from bettering themselves. Both of these extremes have the potential to result in prejudicial behaviors. Nonetheless, when self interest and empathy are expressed with the appropriate level of restraint, the result has the capacity to be harmonious and the ability to maximize advantage outcomes. “Too Much Happiness” by Alice Munro, demonstrates how even a glimpse of empathy can result in the betterment of an individual's interests in addition to the subject of their compassion’s.…
