What was the Cold War and why did it happen? How did it threaten the entire world? The famous author name’s Hans Kung said: “After two world wars, the collapse of fascism, nazism, communism and colonialism and the end of the cold war, humanity has entered a new phase of its history”. In human history, the Cold War definitely changed the condition of the world. This war was mainly between the United States and the Soviet Union. American believed that the western civilization was more advanced than other parts of civilization in the world. After the October Revolution, American government realized that the Soviet Union will be the enemy in the future. Then there were two events happened which are the Truman Doctrine of containment and the Marshall Plan. On the surface, the purpose of these two events was American government wanted to support European countries and helped them to recovery. But actually American government wanted to interference the politics in other countries. The U.S. wanted to be the leader of the world. The Soviet Union was totally messed up after the Second World War, and the most important things was have a peaceful environment to recovery the pain of the war. Therefore, the Soviet Union rebuilt their own defense to make sure other countries won’t invade it. The Soviet Union knew that there was only one country in the world could threaten it which was the U.S, so the Soviet Union constitute the Warsaw Pact to against the North Atlantic Treaty.
In some ways, the Cold War has brought some benefits, that it helped the whole world to avoid the Third World War. The Soviet Union and the U.S. both had nuclear weapons, and the Cuban Missile Crisis almost started a nuclear war. Their militaries strength were almost equal, so they were both trying to avoid war. Because of this two powerful countries against each other, the rest of the world could avoid the threat of these two big counties. While that time, the countries in the Third World had a great opportunity to develop. Many countries joined Non-Aligned Movement which helped the Third World raised
