Why did Heisenberg come to Copenhagen that night in the September of 1941; what were his intentions and what did Bohr and Heisenberg discuss on their walk? The entire play of Copenhagen attempts to answer these questions. The three characters, the Danish physicist Niels Bohr, Bohr’s wife Margrethe Bohr, and the German physicist Werner Heisenberg, discuss their memories of the events of 1941 while they sit in what is presumably purgatory. The pattern of the play is cyclical in which the actors go over the events repeatedly, debating their perspectives about the events.
