D1 College Football Players Should Not Get Paid
The NCAA, coaches, players and fans are debating whether or not D1 College football players should be paid for playing their sport. Division 1 football is the highest level of play for intercollegiate athletics authorized by the NCAA. The NCAA stands for the National Collegiate Athletic Association and governs hundreds of colleges and thousands of athletes. There has been an ongoing discussion by media, fans and people across America whether student athletes should be getting paid or not. Getting paid after already reaping benefits like free schooling or free job training should not be allowed. Listland.com stated that, ¨A student athlete is an amateur just like a student accountant who is making a choice to participate in a sport as their overall educational experience” (Anderson). Using a scholarship can save an athlete thousands and sometimes more than a hundred thousand dollars. Listland.com also explained that “A student athlete should look at their college sports experience simply as a vehicle to higher education” (Anderson). The student experience along with the benefits received should be enough. An article called, Top 10 Reasons Why College Athletes Should Not Get Paid said that, “College is a time to learn, and whether a college student wants to be an accountant or a professional athlete, they are not a professional when still in school” (Anderson). College athletes focus should be on getting their education and should not change to how much money can they make. They go to school for an education. It is not a time to make money or fortune. Many Division 1 players will go on to become professional athletes making millions of dollars and the college experience is their showcase for the professional teams to evaluate their abilities and skills.
