Why Are Honor Codes Important

Honor Codes Rules, Codes, and law are necessary throughout a person’s life. Implementing obedience, and discipline in a child and allowing them to grow valuing these things will assist them in their adult life. Laurel High School should indeed implement an honor code or honor code system in order to discipline students as well as strengthen their education. An honor code prohibiting cheating, stealing, and plagiarizing will help students in their education. In addition, other moral codes dealing with drugs, abstinence and respect could not only assist students in education but also assist them in life. A code gives students a set of guidelines that they must abide by or face consequences. In education, plagiarism continues to be a problem for students and teachers. The advancements in technology have made it nearly effortless for a student to copy another person's work and call it their own in order to get a grade and pass a class. Plagiarism is indeed an act of theft. As a way to help students get the education they deserve, consequences should be put into effect. Students that treat each other with respect and care are less likely to act violently towards one another especially if they have been groomed in a system from early adolescence. Some might object to these codes with the belief that students will do whatever they want regardless of whether moral codes are implemented or not. Yet I would argue that the implementation of the honor codes isn't to take away students free will. Students are free to do whatever they please. The purpose of these honor codes is for students to learn how to properly carry themselves. The consequences for violating those codes are in place to caution them away from
