Why Are Gender Specific Toys?

Why are genders tied to colours? What about pink is girly? What makes blue so masculine? Today, we find a need to separate genders by using this colour code. This can be seen especially in toys. It can be seen that girls get all the pink and purple toys, while boys get blue and red. There is no reason to have the gender split, especially in this generation. Not everything is as black and white as we are trying to make it. Different kids are going to think different things so we need to find a way to apply this to the way toys are advertised. Toys shouldn’t be based on genders because not all genders want to play with their “gender specific” toys, and it causes a confusion in children. Children don’t always want to play with the toys that were made for their gender. Growing up, I started off playing with basic girl toys; Barbie, Bratz, My Little Pony, ect. Some kids may identify as a different gender than what they are born with, leaving them vulnerable to bullying. Going back to my personal example, I was teased for not enjoying the girly toys as much as I enjoyed playing with more boyish toys. Today I still enjoy men’s stuff compared to women’s. I wear men’s clothing a lot, and I enjoy playing video games which is targeted more towards boys, but it is slowly recognizing their girl players. Today I am more accepted for using men’s products, but what about it the other way around? If a boy wanted to play with girl toys and play dress up, it is not accepted nearly as much as a girl wanting to play a video game. This leaves a gap where boys are able to get more confused than girls. They end up more confused because society won’t let them have a chance, but they see all the little girls in the world getting one. This leaves a sense of unfairness, and frustration for the
