Affirmative Action is important to create equal opportunities for all citizens. It may be put in place to “boost” minorities and people who are less privileged than others, and to help them get a higher and better education and better jobs. This would help them create a bigger impact on our changing society. Bakke was denied attendance to the University of California even though less-qualified black students were admitted on June 28th, 1978. Bakke went to Court with the University of California vs. Bakke case, which went all the way to the Supreme Court.
As Bakke struck down strict quotas, the Supreme Court stated that some quotas were perfectly constitutional. 15% of all public works were started to be reserved for qualified minority contractors by July 2nd, 1980 as this federal law was created.
On May 19th, 1986, a school board wanted permission to preserve rights of non-minority groups by laying off more privileged members first. The Supreme Court Argued against this act, stated that everyone should be fired not due to their status as minorities or non-minorities.
In the case of United States v. Paradise, the Supreme Court asked the State of Alabama Department of Public Safety to change their policies of hiring blacks. Before the Supreme Court asked them to do this, black people were discriminated in the hiring aspect. This occurred February 25th,
