Abortion is legal in the United States of America and rightly so. In other countries abortion laws are restrictive that even when a mother’s life is in jeopardy a woman does not have the choice to abort. The feeling when a doctor tells you that you are going to die because of a complication with the fetus in your womb can be devastating. The doctor claims he cannot abort the fetus because of the laws to protect life. When a woman gets pregnant she shall have the legal right to perform an abortion for reasons of her own choice. Even if she was raped, or by incest or not she has the right to decide. If woman are not given the choice will be forced into pregnancy, which they do not want and are against their will. Woman will be forced to birth a child that is from rape or incest. In some developing countries the abortion laws are strict even to the point where it may jeopardize the woman’s life. Savita Halappanavar of Ireland died due to the country denying her request of abortion. Halappanavar had miscarried her baby and Halappanavar died because they would not abort the dead fetus. The fetus was rotting within the womb. This death was not thirty years ago nor was ten years ago, the death of Halappanavar was in 2012. The battle of prochoice is still amongst us in the world. Today the rights of women are still being challenge and denied across the world (Choice, Interrupted 1). If a woman is not allowed an abortion then the government is saying woman are an incubator and your job is to pump out babies. A woman is more than a machine to pump out babies. A woman is a person with dreams and aspirations, one who shouldn’t be limited to the burden of a child. If a woman is not ready to have a child and wants an abortion would that be irresponsible?
