“The world, that understandable and lawful world was slipping away,” (Golding 91). In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, a group of boys undergo a plane crash and end up helpless on a tropical island. The boys then gather and elect a chief named Ralph. Ralph then sets guidelines for the tribe of boys to follow while they are at bay on the island. Throughout the book, these rules are no longer in play as the boys begin to follow a boy named Jack who is power hungry. Jack leads everyone away from Ralph and deep into his savage ways. The savagery of Lord of the Flies is seen through leadership, fear, and hunger.
