Dante Alighieri was an Italian poet from the 11th and 12th century who was best known for his poem “The Divine Comedy”. “The Divine Comedy” was considered to be the greatest Italian piece of literature ever written. Dante Aligheri was born in approximately 1265 in Florence, Italy. His parents where Alaghiero and Bella. Bella, his mother, died before Dante even turned 10 years old. At 12, Dante was promised in marriage to Gemma di Manito. Not much is known about Dante's education but it was believed he studied poetry and had an interest in culture, politics, and literature.
