Although she wouldn’t be the first person to circumnavigate the earth, she decided she would be the first to do it around the equator. She pulled together the best crew of three men that she could find: Captain Harry Manning the navigator; Fred Noonan was the second navigator, and Paul Mantz, would be Amelia Earhart’s technical advisor on this trip around the world.
The original plan for Amelia Earhart’s adventure was to take off from Oakland, California, and fly west to Hawaii. From there, the four of them would fly across the Pacific Ocean to Australia. Then they would cross India, on to Africa, then to Florida, and back to California.
On March 17, 1937, they took off from Oakland on the first leg. They faced some complications while flying across the Pacific, and had to land in Hawaii for some repairs. After three days in Hawaii, they began to takeoff, from Hawaii to Australia. Amelia Earhart and her team then lost control of the aircraft, the plane crashed on the runway.
