For my first reflection I decided to really focus on Identity. While reading Readings for Diversity and social justice I found the topic of identity to be one of the most fascinating. In the excerpt “Who am I?” by Beverly Daniel Tatum his ideas reflected a lot upon my own. Daniel begins explaining the complexity of identity by defining identity as the characteristics, family dynamics, historical factors, social and political context. Basically stating that identity is what makes us all individuals and unique. As a young child I never understood my own identity. I was influence by societies opinions on who I should be based on my physical identity rather than who I knew I truly was. I never took into consideration my own identity I just
