The tragic Whitman Massacre happened in November,29th 1847 (Washington History book). One disease the Whitmans gave the NAs were small pox. Smallpox is a contagious, disfiguring and often deadly disease that has affected humans for thousands of years. Naturally occurring smallpox was eradicated worldwide by 1980 the result of an unprecedented global.(mayoclinic.org) That must have been super scary for the NA. Next disease was the measles. The measles are a childhood infection caused by a virus. Once quite common, measles can now almost always be prevented with a vaccine. Signs and symptoms of measles include cough, runny nose, inflamed eyes, sore throat. That must have been really nasty for the NA. Another disease is Cholera. This is the definition for it Cholera is a bacterial disease, usually spread through contaminated water. Cholera causes severe diarrhea and dehydration. Left untreated, cholera can be fatal in a matter of hours, even in previously healthy people. I feel bad now for the NA.
