The Plain of Auvers
The title of the piece I chose is “Wheat Fields after the Rain (The Plain of Auvers).” It is painted by Vincent van Gogh in July of 1890. The painting has various shades of green, yellow and blue. The sky is a light blue that has clouds that were painted in a circular pattern and it takes up about 1/3 of the picture. “The sky appears to stand a good several inches behind the horizon, the plain looks gradational by different level of green colors” (Kao). Kao is talking about how even though the picture is one just one dimensional that us as humans can tell where the fields are separated and that the sky is not attached to the wheat fields but it looks to us as …show more content…
Moving down there are a couple of what seem to be bushes or trees. They are round objects that are green but some are taller than others conveying that it could be either bushes or trees. There are wheat fields that are yellow and there are wheat fields that are green. There are only a couple of yellow wheat fields as they are heavily outnumbered by green wheat fields. The wheat fields seem to be in a zig-zag type of pattern. In the foreground, there is grass and what seems to be a bit of flowers and the grass is green and brown. Moving from the foreground to the background the wheat fields get smaller and smaller. There seems to be a small hill in the middle of the picture as the plains of the wheat fields seem to be at a lower elevation than the foreground plains. On the right side of the picture there seems to be a clear divide with somewhat of a tree line and it makes its way from the right of the …show more content…
The lines in the wheat fields seemed to be perfect in the fact that he did not miss a beat with them. There are a couple wheat fields that have lines that only go part of the wheat field to symbolize that crop growing more than the other wheat. The flowers that are in the foreground of the painting is very detailed. It seems to be that there is only one yellow flower out of all the other flowers. This flower has bloomed and is beautiful compared to the rest. I believe that Van Gogh believed that he could be that flower without his mental complications. With his mental complications, I believed that Van Gogh assumed he was more like a flower that has not blossomed. Delving into the painting even farther there are clear barriers between each of the wheat fields as there is a darker shade of green between them. He wants a clear barrier because each wheat field is
