An alliance is a formal political, military agreement between multiple nations. Military alliances typically contain promises that that in event of war one nation will support the other. This was another cause of the war because it forced many countries into conflict although they were not originally affected. As more and more alliances became involved, alliances of those alliances became involved; the war grew to incorporate the whole world. Nationalism was another thing that took part in he spark of the war. Nationalism is an elaborate form of patriotism and loyalty of ones country.
