The Question we have chosen to explore, Brice and I, is “What pain reliever is most soluble in water; Tylenol, Advil, or Aleve?” Webster dictionary defines solubility as “The quality, condition, or degree of being soluble or solvable; Soluble means, able to dissolve In liquid.” We are testing the solubility of Tylenol, Advil, and Aleve in water. We will also try aspirin

For this experiment, a few scientists are researching how different flavors/colors of sports drinks effect the amount of red 40 dye in each drink. The independent variable in the experiment is the flavors of Gatorade (a brand of sports drinks) used, while the dependent variable is the concentration of dye the sports drinks contain. The constant variable is the spectrophotometer, the amount of liquid used, and the same type of cuvette. The controlled variable is only using water. In order to determine which drink would have the greatest concentration of red 40 dye, the scientists must first understand what it actually is.…

The definition of solubility is the quantity of any given substance that can be dissolved in the other, or the maximum amount of solute that can be dissolved in a solvent, which is why the solubility of Minoxidil is water. In other words, it is a substance that dissolves in another substance ranging from a solid mixed with a liquid, liquid mixed with other liquids, and gases mixed with liquids, but the only two things that can affect…

The components of Alka Seltzer come together to form a pain reliever and antacid formulation. Aspirin is classified as a Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug and has the function of a pain-killer, helping to reduce inflammation, fever and pain within the body by reducing the production of a substance called prostaglandins which are “hormone-like substances” (Drugs 2017) that regulate the inflammation and cause the bodies pains and headaches.(Merck Animal Health) The Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate (NaHCO3) and Citric acid on the other hand react together in the aqueous solution to form sodium citrate. The sodium citrate produced is able to neutralise the HCl produced in the stomach by exchanging the H+ in the solution with the Na+ forming citric acid, which is a weaker acid than hydrochloric acid. There is also an excess amount of Sodium Bicarbonate present with solution and the bicarbonate ions act as the main buffering agents neutralising any acid or alkali added producing water.…

    1. The 48 years old Native American women presenting to the Indian Hospital is taking Lisinopril because of hypertension as one of the conditions documented in her past medical history. Hypertension is supported by the current measurements of the blood pressure readings of 165/100. Lisinopril is an angiotensin –converting enzyme inhibitor (ACE) considered as one of the first line treatment option for hypertension. The pharmacological mechanism of action for Lisinopril is to inhibit the action of angiotensin- converting enzyme by preventing conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II which will result in decreased vasoconstriction of the vessels and water reabsorption.…

Hypothesis My hypothesis is if the pills are put in stomach acid, then the gelcaps will dissolve the fastest, because gelcaps are just gelatin capsule that hold the liquid inside. So when the liquid is released it will be absorbed faster than the other pills. I base my hypothesis on Gel Caps or Coated? Pick the Right Pill, page 2 that says, “Soft, flexible gelatin capsules hold liquid-which may be absorbed more quickly than regular pills”.…

The experiment that I will be conducting focuses on how fast one tablet of Alka seltzer can dissolve in various temperatures of water. The core of this procedure is to determine the impact that temperature has on how fast something dissolves. My hypothesis for this experiment would be that the Alka Seltzer that dissolves the fastest would be the one that was placed in the water with the highest temperature. There will be controlled and manipulated variables explained throughout the experiment. The two main things used in this experiment will be the solute and the solvent, which is Alka Seltzer and water.…

How do varying strengths of generic aspirin affect the amount of 0.1 mol dm 3 NaOH needed to neutralize differing concentrations of acetyl salicylic acid in aspirin? Aspirin is used nowadays as a mild analgesic and antipyretic, and carries out these functions by preventing the formation of prostaglandin synthase. Aspirin contains acetylsalicylic acid, a derivative of salicylic acid. This acid, which is otherwise known as 2hydroxybenzoic acid, is also the active ingredient in the analgesic.…

Analgesics are a group of drugs used to alleviate pain with their various structural and physiological characteristics. Due to the high diversity of the human body, there are different groups of analgesics that are programmed to assist with pain in different parts of the body. One of the first group of analgesics produced are Narcotic Alkaloids. This group was obtained to reduce and block the activation of the pain in the neurons of the gray matter of the spinal cord and at certain receptor sites in the brain stem (Pharmacology of Health Professionals, Bryant). By doing this, the descending connections of cells are also inhibited by the narcotics.…

When calculating the quantitative solubility of the unknown compound in water, the amount of water that was measured in the hydrated cylinder and poured into the flask could have been greater than expected. This is more likely than less water being used because more solute was needed to saturate the solution than expected. Another error that could have occurred during this part of the experiment was that too much of the unknown compound was added accidently to the solution than could dissolve. Most of the error in this lab occurred during the quantitative analysis since all of the percent yields of the precipitate were over 100%. This miscalculation could have been caused by the beakers not being washed out thoroughly between each reaction or by the mass of KCl measured on the electronic scale being greater than exactly 0.5 grams.…

The purpose of this experiment was to determine the presence of the analgesic compounds acetaminophen, aspirin, caffeine, and salicylamide in the over-the-counter medications Anacin, Bufferin, Excedrin, and Tylenol. Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) was used to analyze solutions of the medications; the TLC plates were visualized using ultraviolet light and iodine staining. The ten micropipets used to spot the TLC plates were made from glass capillary tubes by heating the middle of each tube in a Bunsen burner flame, pulling the ends of the tube away from each other so that the middle was stretched into a thinner tube, and breaking the cooled capillary in the middle to form two micropipets. Two silica-gel TLC plates were spotted with solutions…
