(1)“Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely” said in 1887 by a historian and moralist, with the name of Lord Acton. (2)Corruption is the abuse of entrusted power for private gain. It can be classified as grand, petty and systemic corruption, depending on the amounts of money lost and how bad the action really is. Everyone should know about corruption, it is a huge problem in many countries including United States. (3)Corruption can be broken down into three subtopics that all contribute to it, power, ambition, and loss of morality.
Power is where it all begins, with no power corrupting is impossible. This is true because in the definition it states that it is the abuse of entrusted power is for ones private gain, therefore there is no way to have gain for oneself if no power is held over anyone or anything. (5)Ambition is the desire to do something, in this case it is the desire to do some corrupt action. It plays a huge role in corruption being that it is the driving force and the reason for it all. In the story of Macbeth, Macbeth is driven to kill king duncan by three witches saying (6)“All hail, Macbeth, hail to thee, thane of Cawdor! All hail, Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter!” They are telling Macbeth to kill the king so that he will become the king and everything will be his. As you can see Macbeth is now being driven to do this corrupt action of killing the king all just so that he will have a higher self worth.
