Ignorance played a big role into the community’s dystopian society. Basic emotions such as love and sorrow were obsolete. Additionally, citizens of the community did not have any understanding of the outside world due to Sameness. Knowledge is a limitless concept that should be discovered and a freedom all people deserve; therefore, making the community a degrading area of dwelling. The arts were an unknown concept — even color was ambiguous. Music was also banned in the world of The Giver.
