However while in pharmacy school in Nigeria, I found out that the practice of pharmacy in Nigeria was not at par with international standards and I wanted more. This became clearer during my final year thesis where my project was on pharmaceutical care in developed countries with USA as a model and researched the possibility of having Nigerian pharmacist provide such standard of Care. Naturally, I threw myself into this project and not only finished with an A grade but kindled another desire but this time to practice pharmaceutical which will be possible outside Nigeria. To this end I applied and enrolled in a masters program in pharmaceutical services and medicine control at University of Bradford in the UK where I finished with a distinction.
Furthermore, during my masters program, I discovered there are more intricate processes that are involved in proper medication use. As a result, I wrote my thesis on the use of Medicine (which I also finished with an A grade] where I reviewed a number of scientific journals in an attempt to compare, find out and proffer probable ways on pharmacist role in improving medicine use in Nigeria. In addition, I will like advance my career by specializing as a consultant pharmacist or as a clinical pharmacist. These are areas my present qualification does not give me an easy access into. For example, having a Pharm D is a requirement for application for residency programs and certifications in areas of interests such as Oncology, cardiology and anticoagulation.
Being a part of this program will not only enhance my clinical knowledge but also prepare me for future undertakings in my professional journey.
MCPHS is my choice for this next step of my life because of the proven track records in producing well-trained pharmacists. Likewise, I have heard and read about the high academic standards required of students at MCPHS and I am excited about the prospect of getting a worthwhile education that will gives me an edge in my career.
