A goal is an aim which you would like to achieve. Goals set direction in people’s lives. Goals are a pathway to a successful life.
Goals help you to focus and decide on what you want to achieve in life. Goals motivate you and make you more self- confident. Purpose of goal setting
If you do not set goals, everything you achieve and everywhere you end up becomes a matter of luck.
Hellriegel, Slocum, and Woodman & Martens (1992) (1987) find the following to be the most important purposes and benefits of goal-setting:

There are many types of goals. But, the most common way of categorizing these goals are:
• Short term goals-
Short term goals are those things which you want to do on the present day, the next day or within the next few weeks.
• Medium term goals-
Medium term goals are those things which you want to do in the next few months or within the next year.
• Long term goals-
Long term goals are those things which you want to do later in life, be it the next year, another 5 years or may be even longer.

After writing down your goals, reviewing them regularly is an important thing to do.
Reviewing your goals will act as a reminder of what you have to achieve.
Certain steps must be taken in order to achieve your goals. Each section below consists of the various methods that can be incorporated. To start with, choose your preferred method in each of the section below.
Writing your goals
• 1st method- Write down your goals in small cards that you can easily carry.
• 2nd method- Type and take a printout of your goals.
• 3rd method- Write out your goals in a chart paper/ A4 sheet.
Reviewing your goals
• 1st method- Read through all your goals every morning or night.
• 2nd method- Read the most important and urgent goal as soon as you wake up each morning.
• 3rd method- Place your goals somewhere where you can have a look at it every day.
