Eating a proper diet does not only apply to the elderly. The practice of eating healthy throughout the life of the human body begins as a child. The eating habits of children strongly influence adulthood behavior and food choice. Additionally, Wu & Arto stated overweight and obesity in children has negative consequences for self-esteem, social behavior and cognitive development. (2012). Prolonged unhealthy eating continues to effect the body long after childhood. As an adult there are numerous reasons why eating right is the most important factor in being healthy and some of the most important reason are food effects attitude, the importance of proper hydration, and the positive effects of eating fresh food.

Knowledge of the importance is fairly known. Without water the body will die, but hydration place more of an effect then survival. The optimal level of hydration (depending on the person) is unknown. For this reasons doctors recommend three liters. The effects of dehydration can be studied. Dehydration individuals exposed to head have been shown to have significantly decrease alertness, concentration, tracking performance, and short-term memory, and increase tiredness and headaches in health adults. In a test dehydration individuals were able to still answers questions correctly, but “it took a longer time for dehydrated subjects to answer correctly” (Ritz S7). Chronic dehydration effects the tissue inside the body and the outer skin. As the body ages the less water skin retains, which causes aging. Premature aging occurs when the body is deprived of adequate hydration for a long period of time. More serious health concerns include high blood pressure, stomach ulcers and digestive problems. Studies by other articles arrive at the conclusion that extrinsic factors cause cancer, but these are done theoretically and not observation of actual patients. A healthy plant-based diet of at least 2 and a half cups of fresh vegetables is recommended and avoid processed food. The number one cause of obesity in America remains improper diet.
