To successfully work in cohesion with Indigenous Australians, it is essential to have increased ‘knowledge and understanding of the histories, cultures and experiences of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people’, (Aboriginal Education and Training Directorate, 2009, p.13). For example Indigenous cultural education can be accessed through school, TAFE colleges and other department offices. In aiming to succeed working effectively with Indigenous communities, “self-determination and community governance, reconnection and community life, and restoration and community resilience” is essential, (AIHW, 2014).
