Congresswoman Betty McCollum has been representing the fourth congressional district since the turn of the century and has effectively represented the bias of her of constituents in the House of Representatives. McCollum has an “almost perfect liberal voting record” as illustrated in Fig 1.5 which is more progressively liberal than her Democratic predecessor, Bruce Vento (Almanac) (Govtrackus). On Betty McCollum’s personal campaign website, she boasts being a champion for the social liberal ideals of “full civil rights, LGBT, medicare, [and] earning an ‘F’ grade by the National Rifle Association (Website). Furthermore, being the second woman in Minnesota history to serve Congress after Amy Klobuchar illustrates the left-leaning current Minnesota…

In both essays written by George Will and Linda Chavez there are some very good points on as to why children born to illegal immigrants, should and shouldn’t be automatically deemed citizens of the U.S. In both essay’s both authors use the Fourteenth Amendment as one of the main points in their arguments. George Will argues that “birthright citizenship” should not be a thing and that people take the Fourteenth Amendment out of context. People who argue that the Fourteenth Amendment should allow people born on U.S. soil are misinterpreting what the founding fathers intended when this amendment was made. George argues that there is no way that when this Amendment was written they could’ve known in the future the huge waves of “illegal immigrants”…
The American Civil War was a conflict between Northern and Southern states of the United States between 1861 and 1865. The Valley of the Shadow archive was put together to tell the stories of the residents of Augusta County, Virginia and Franklin County, Pennsylvania during the Civil War. From 1862 to 1864 Nancy Emerson of Augusta County kept a diary detailing her life during the war. In the year 1863, Rachel Cormany kept a diary of her life in Franklin County.…
On the other hand Barbara Stauffacher Solomon. She is, as well as James Turrell, a type of interior designer in a very special way. With her interior concept she is representing the maximalism but she developed a different and special way of concept for that. The room is combined with so called “supergraphics“. As Turrell point out the extravagant possibilites of minimalism, Solomon open the way up to a special kind of maximalism.…
This source was a novel called ‘Put out More Flags’ which was written by Evelyn Waugh which was published in 1942; it examined the experiences of people who looked after evacuees and the troubles they faced. From the source, we can infer that the people who looked after the evacuees did not like them and saw them as filthy, uncivilised and dirty. This would have been how many hosts would have felt. They had to complete all of the tasks that the parents of these children would have to do. We can also infer that the experience the evacuees had been also unpleasant because the hosts were not always keen on having them, live with them, and for this reason, may have been subject to abuse; therefore, it would have also been a stressful time for…
Muriel Mattes was a prominent figure in the Feminist Movement, who campaigned the vote for women in the early 1900s. Though her work was mainly recognised in Britain, she is an Australian born suffragette. Muriel Matters pulled off quirky, bold and brave actions which forwarded the movement. Muriel Matters influences effected society, this was significant as her work was a part of the first wave of the Feminism Movement, consequently effected women today’s right to vote. In life, people suffer the conflict between remaining true to themselves and achieving others expectations. The similarities of both “The Yellow Wallpaper” and “The Type” is that women are trapped in a repressive and unequal society. The narrator of “The Yellow Wallpaper” is a submissive and humble woman. She is faced with a situation that seem innocent and natural, but actually that is oppressive. As she states, “[she] takes phosphates or phosphites - whichever it is” based on the instructions of her husband.…
Abigail Williams: the one who was most despised Everyone should be accountable for their own actions. The reason why Abigail can relate to this is because. She never took responsibility for her own actions when she got caught doing things she wasn’t supposed to be doing. Abigail Williams is seemed to be one of the most despicable characters in this play.…
The one sentence that stood out to me was where you said that the idea that certainty could never be a set fact and that with proof, certainty is easy, but it is not always the case. I agree completely about what you said about Sister James. Sister Aloysius stated in the book that an innocent person is awfully gullible and I believe that both Sister Aloysius and Father Flynn took advantage of that trait. However, in the long run, Sister James’ thoughts seemed irrelevant to Sister Aloysius because Sister Aloysius was the one that wanted Father Flynn out of her school and she was the one that took action to get him out. Moving onto the last paragraph, I loved the last…
During the Salem Witch Trials, innocent lives were taken at the hands of mass hysteria. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Abigail Williams started to accuse people of witchcraft and more girls followed her lead. Most people would think that because of this, Abigail is the only one to blame for starting the hysteria. While Abigail is to blame for her actions, the true root of her motivation can be traced back to John Proctor. He cheated on his wife with Abigail but broke it off after she found out, causing her to want his wife out of the way so she could be with him.…
Once Terry gains her vision, and sees her birthmark for the first time, she doesn't display the same forms of revulsion as Aunt-bea. This is because Aunt Bea’s believes Terry will react to negatively towards her Aesthetic difference (19). This is demonstrated during the preporations for Terry’s surgery and Aunt bea, anticipates the future problems revolve around the purple birthmark. However, the doctor doesn't react with major interest towards the birthmark, this is because people in the medical field would recognize the birthmark as irrelevant, because it doesn't directly impacts Terry’s health. Rather the doctor responds that Terry will have to deal with spatial problems (Dyspraxia), and Aunt-bea disregards the significance of this forboding problem.…
Comparing Granny from the original and Granny Puckett from Hoodwinked is no unexacting task. The only thing indistinguishable about their appearance is that they have white permed hair. Attire also play a major part in the divergence between the two, each having their own unique style. Looking more closely at the pair, you can see that another major divergence is their personality. The personality plays a big part in shaping the character.…
There are many factors that cause relationships to form. Whether it be love, hate, envy or indignation they all draw people together either in helpful or detrimental ways. Feelings and emotions are the driving force of why humans connect. Some of the emotions or driving factors that may seem like opposites, actually are eerily similar. For example, love and hate are both very strong emotions or feelings one could have for another person, yet they have some of the same characteristics.…
Family members share much of the same things in life. Children are born to the same mother, raised in the same house, and experience many of the same hardships. Dee and Maggie were born to a poor life that was filled with hardship. And, as they grew older their experiences led them down separate paths with separate mindsets. Dee and Maggie lived in a home that a was no better than a shack and had a hardened mother who worked through hard labor to provide.…
