In my own words, the achievement gap means how different kid’s grades or test scores are compared to other kids who are a different race, different family income, etc. Three differences that exist between groups in academic achievements are English language learners, racial and ethnic minorities, and students from low income families. The authors say that these disparities exist because students cannot adapt to English, skills are not improving, and kids in the past were not allowed to attend white schools until the Brown v. Board case.
