There are many videos around the INTERNET and on the news that shows police brutality against colored people. Many people have been shot and died right on the spot. Many innocent lives have been lost along the way. Racial profiling is a serious matter happening all around. Even though police officers feel the right to profile people, it is wrong because the police stop people for their race, ethnicity, and religion, targets groups based on past incidents, and it has killed many innocent people when they are not armed. Bush stated,”Racial Profiling is wrong, and we will end it in America.” According to The New York Times on Racial Discrimination in Stop-and-Frisk, Judge Shira Scheindlin has been fighting to change the discriminatory in stop and frisks over in New York which has been violating the rights of the people. There are statistics showing that the city conducted 4.4 million stops between January 2004 and June 2012 in which only 6% were arrested and 6% in summonses, while the other 88% resulted in nothing. There was evidence showing that the majority who were stopped were African Americans and Hispanic residents. There are laws such as the Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment that protects the people from being searched without a reasonable reason and that they must be treated equally under the law. The California Governor had signed an anti-racial profiling bill. There are states who prohibit profiling people completely and 20 other states who still allow it. The people who seem to be from a certain religion who cover their heads with turbans are much more profiled when they go to certain places or enter the country. Such story of Amardeep Singh states that he was stopped at an airport and was subjected to extra screening along with his 18 month-old son. The boy was patted down and his belongings were searched including his Elmo book. Muslims, Sikh, and any who may look like them are stopped and questioned for extra screening. In the Reality of Racial Profiling, there are many stories of different people who are being stopped and treated differently.
