Throughout the entire play of The Crucible by Arthur Miller, John Proctor sacrificed himself in so many different manners. As the protagonist, John Proctor, learns from his flaws, yet also begs for forgiveness, therefore initiating him to truly grow the goodness inside a man. In the beginning of the play, John Proctor makes a big mistake regarding Elizabeth Proctor and their relationship, as he tested the limits by cheating on his wife with Abigail Williams. By John Proctor refusing to lie about witchcraft and confess like some authorities wanted to happen, John Proctor sacrifices himself in the name of honesty.
