Independent Reading: DEAR Time (20:00, (2x) 3:00 transition [get books, put books away]):
(DEAR time means, “drop everything and read.” After the teacher has completed the guided reading groups. The students will come back together as a whole class and everyone will read for 20 minutes. Students will select the book that they would like to read out their independent reading group crate. The books are separated depending on the student’s independent reading level. There will be a colored crate and a picture of their animal group of the front of the crate so students know which crate they can select a book from. Students are allowed to sit around the room and students that have ear plugs can put them in. The room will not be silent because
