What Is Increasing The Driving Age Essay

Motor vehicle crashes has been one of the main cause of death for the people in the United States. Also 60% of deaths among passenger vehicle occupants ages 16-19 were the drivers. This shows that more than half of the vehicle crashes are caused by teenagers. Increasing the driving age will prevent all these crashes. The legal minimum age to get a driver license in the United States should be increase to 21. Teen drivers in the United States are causing too many accidents to happen. Having a teen driver on the street are risking the lives of everyone around them. The way teenagers think are causing the death rate higher. Teenagers wear seat belts less often than older driver. According to nhtsa.gov, In 2009, 56% of young people 16 - 20 years old involved in fatal crashes were unbuckled. Teens think it is cool to not wear a seat belt while driving, disregarding the fact that the use of seat belt is the most effective way to reduce fatal injuries in crashes. In the US almost everyone owns a cellphone. 34% of teen say they have been texting while driving and 52% said they have talked on a phone while driving. Using a cellphone while driving increases the chance of crashing by 23 times. Texting while driving is something that teenagers do all the time. According to edgarsnyder.com, teen drinkers often consume more alcohol at a time than adults that are over 21. Being drunk or texting while driving will highly increase the chance of a person crashing. Teens likes to do these thing because they think they are invincible. Nine out of ten teens reported it was common to see teens driving while talking on a cell phone. This is putting the people in the car dangerous and people on the road. Teens likes taking risk, they often thinks driving is for entertainment and to show off to their friends, they don't really have a good use of it. Most people under the age of 21 won't have the money to own a car. Teens usually can't even pay for their tickets when they get stop by the police while driving. They will need there parent to pay for it. People should wait until they are more responsible and actually need a car before they get their driver licenses. It is definitely worth it to wait and be more educated about driving, so you are not putting other people's lives and your own on risk. Increasing the minimum age to drive will definitely be more beneficial to the society. As it will cost less money and will prevent many accidents to occur. Many people that goes to school use public transportation even when they have a car. The cost of gas might even be more expensive than taking the train. It is also not recommended for college students to drive to school because of the lack of sleeps. People are not fully mature and responsible until they get older. They need to have experience more things in life. After they graduate college, they will be a lot more educated on what they are doing. They are not experienced and mostly don't understand the responsibility of having a car. Teens are still going to school and getting educated. Also they shouldn't need to use a car to go places too often. When they graduated from college and actually get a job, they will at least be more educated and knowledgeable of what they are doing. Younger teens are less reckless than older when they just got their license. A 16 year old are more willing to learn and accept advice because they are still in high school learning every day. Compared to a 21 year old graduating out of school and thinking they don't need to learn anymore because they think they know everything.
