• The cardiovascular disease that I have chosen is Coronary Artery Disease. The coronary arteries are responsible for supplying the heart with oxygen, and the nutrients needed for its survival. The major coronary arteries stem from the outermost of the heart branching from the aorta, divided into the left and right of which smaller coronary arteries branch from. Coronary Artery Disease occurs when flow through the arteries is impaired due to a buildup of atheroma, or plaque. This buildup can consist of cells, debris, lipids, or calcium. The buildup results in narrowing of the arteries, this narrowing impairs the blood flow through the arteries. The blockage can result in ischemia, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, or sudden cardiac death.
