What Is Calabaria?

Decent Essays
The genus Candoia encompasses three species, like the Candoia tarinata, that are found mostly in New Guinea and some adjacent islands. There are great differences in color and size within the species due to their distribution being scattered across many oceanic islands. Calabaria is a monophyletic genus that only contains one species, Calabaria reinhardtii, the Calabar ground boa. This species is found only in West Africa. The genus Erys are found throughout north Africa, the Middle East and even into Central Asia and India. Some of the species within Erys like the Erys jaculus, are restricted to south-eastern Europe. The largest species, Erys johnii, grows to a length of about 1 meter and some of its relatives barely grow to half that size.
