In Anthony Rheingold’s “Net Smart: How to Thrive Online”, Rheingold goes over the significance of using social networks effectively to make us smarter people. She advocates the online use of social media in a way to build a social network of a variety of skilled people to help develop our capabilities. Rheingold argues that mass collaboration has change progressively as from letters to an online network that influenced how we will use the internet. Though Rheingold mention there were a few issues of the absent of ties and limitation of new information, I see the benefit of communication in a group in my daily life. In the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC), everybody knows each other’s. Over 200 students, we all remember each other faces and name because we all participate in the opportunities AFRTOC has to offer. However, we all follow this “Chain of Command” in which we are organized by our job status. So the Commander is on the top of the chain while the sub position are near the bottom. Since we all have strong ties with each other we were able to use the chain of command very effectively in sending messages across the students with ease and offering new ideas that the commander could not think before.
