What have you learned about yourself personally and professionally?
As social worker, I have learnt that I am a friendly and appreciative person who accepts the inherent differences among people and the need to overlook such inherent differences and focus on the values of the individual in question. As much as it is not easy, my efforts as a social worker are directed towards friendliness and making people feel loved (Spencer, 2008, p. 101). I understand that most of the people in need of social services often want to feel loved and wanted, an element that explains my commitment to making them have this feeling, which can help in their recovery from the challenges they are undergoing. I am strong when it comes to promoting equality, advocacy for individual to reach their personal potential goals and I believe that the resources in the society have to be used for the greater good of all the people in the society. According to Bishop reading, equality in our society has various levels in which everyone fit into. For example, Bishop used the word “class inequality” to explain the different classes we have in our society such as the power of wealth, ableism, privilege and non privilege, control, visible minority, upper and lower class are all examples that Bishop used to show the a range of class inequality in our society .
Professionally, I have learned that I am good at drawing the line between my professional duties and the personal relationships that I developed with my client, which is important for making me efficient and keen on equity when it comes to the delivery of the social work services. I empower them to the point that they can perceive themselves as equals of the other members of the society. Essentially, they will be able to develop a strong will to assert their place in the society and ensure that measures are taken to institute equity and eliminate the problem for the good of the generations in the future.
In addition, the role of my study to the client is to promote and create awareness of the negative effects of oppression based on paradigms such as gender. Today, many countries in the world have disparities in terms of the opportunities that have been availed to the men and the women in different societies. Women have been the subjects of discrimination for a long time and that has reduced their power and influence in the society (Grant & Cardel, 2009). Post-modern feminists especially have been keen to challenge family therapists and social workers to deal with the interrelated issues in power and oppression (Parker, 2015, p.
