In the story, red seems to have a certain meaning of love and sensualness. Everytime we see red, it is used to symbolize sex or sexual attraction of 2 people. Though it is a common color today, back during the time period brightly colored clothing and objects were very expensive and difficult to obtain. The pink used during Gatsby’s parties or for his suit symbolizes the extent of the extravagant wealth that the people on West Egg and East Egg have.
