The year is marked 1959(which is the year the Price family arrived at the Congo) but it contains ideas and symbols from throughout the whole book. The most noticeable thing on the canvas is the huge and colorful parrot flying above. The parrot is obviously Methuselah who is a notable character in the book and who also symbolizes the Congo.…

In All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque, symbols are used to help better the understanding of the idea of how the brutal ways of the war have affected the soldiers by making them change their views and morals helping them survive the war. There are many cases in which objects and ideas have been symbolized to demonstrate the theme. At the beginning of the novel Montag seems like someone who enjoys his job very much, but as the novel progresses Montag seems to not love his job so much. Its not because of the burning part its because he is the only one that realizes what is happening to the dystopian society that he lives in. He realizes after burning all of these books he is burning the knowledge of the world.…

Some of the details that stick out to me about the imagery of the engraving are the dead colonist on the ground that the British happened to slaughter. The picture has a much deeper meaning than just another painting it develops the understanding in others that this was one of the main events that had lead up to the war. The dead bodies on the ground was only the beginning of many more to come that is also why I found that detail of the painting very significant. The chaos that this painting seems to portray is also another given example of the chaos that was soon to come with the beginning of the war.…

Throughout the novella Anthem by Ayn Rand, color symbolism is used to convey and develop mood, overall theme and characterization. Rand even uses color symbolism with the name of a prominent character:”the golden one”. From this the reader can come to the conclusion that Equality-72521 sees these places are very dull and lifeless. But when Equality describes nature, something they can not control, he uses much more vivid imagery.…
