This paper explores the three main political parties dominating Canadian politics: the New Democratic Party, the Liberal Party, and the Conservative Party, and their political ideologies in relation to their position on the political spectrum. Additionally, the parties demonstrate the three main sides of the political spectrum: left, right, and centre, though there is some overlap which will be discussed further on. To conclude, the Liberal Party remains centrist, bordering left, political ideologies, which allow the party to have broader appeal to Canadians. Moreover, their efforts to implement progressive initiatives in Canada, while still giving priority to the economic side of politics, reveals the party’s diverse set of left and right political ideologies. Finally, the Conservative Party (CPC), is considered to be centre-right to right leaning on the political spectrum, and is the newest party, with it being formed in 2003 (Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2024a). The Conservative Party stands as the right-most leaning out of the three, however still having several ideologies aligning more with the centre of the political spectrum. Firstly, the Conservative Party favours a private economy with minimal government involvement, demonstrating a conservative view on economics (Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2024a).
