I now know how to use rhetorical devices such as the eight questions to better develop my essays in an organized way. Throughout the first half of the semester, I have learned by practicing writing that I have many different strengths and weaknesses in my writing skills.

I was very good at looking at the corrections that needed made and doing them without getting frustrated. I also had a ton of practice with grammar and spelling in yearbook. I am very bad about getting off topic when I am writing because I start to think about other areas of the topic and do not stay focused on the main point. I go on rants about topics that are not related to the main point. For example, in my first development write about the silicon valley school, I do not get to the main purpose of the text until a few paragraphs down. I also never state the author or article because I went on a rant about how the school was changing. I believe not making an outline correlates with me getting off topic because I do not write out what points I want to write about. I often try to create an outline but I get to writing to much in the outline and it turns into my essay and I usually do not complete the entire outline which makes it difficult to organize and finish my

As an inexperienced writer, I often find myself looking at a blank page on my computer and wondering what my point is and how I will be able to express it. Sometimes it’s hard to explain your thoughts to others if they are not clear in your mind either. There are numerous amounts of ways to write a paper or essay and they are all different. In the book The Transition to College Writing, Hjortshoj suggests that making an outline is one of the most important steps in the writing process and it plays a big role in the organization of a paper. Hjorishoj believes that if an outline if not made, then the paper will not be as effective as it would be with an outline. My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

I form an outline and organize my ideas into one space which helps me understand what my main points are and helps me understand how I could My weaknesses are poor time management, getting distracted, and procrastination till the last minute to finish my essays. I do not revise my essays very much besides taking into consideration my peer’s comments. I need to give myself more time to work on my second draft and the revision of that second draft; I usually stay up late writing this essay and I would like to space out my work over a period of time instead of cramming it two days before the essay is due. I usually get distracted when typing an essay because I go through different social media websites and browse through them until I realize that I have to finish my essay; I usually watch videos on YouTube or message my friends on Facebook; I should limit myself from distractions by putting away my phone or even having a post-it note reminder to not stray away from my essay because I will regret it when I am still working on my essay at 2:00 in the morning.…
