Although both non-profit traditional schools and charters schools exist in Indiana they produce different outcomes. The theory of cumulative disadvantage states that “people who begin life with greater resources continue to have opportunities to accumulate more of them while those who begin with few resources fall further behind” (Quadagno, 2014, p. 258). A student’s demographics is very influential to their academic performance. The teachers also play a role in both traditional and charter schools. Sometimes teachers of a similar race can better understand cultural differences. Parents with a high SES or low SES is a determining factor as well. A child living in a high SES home maybe more likely to perform better in school. The charter school
