“ Since 9/11, the industry has expanded about an additional $370 million on security measures”, according to Steve Floyd, senior director of regulatory form at the Nuclear Energy Institute. Protecting these power plants from terrorist attacks is the mission of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The NRC sets up rules that must be followed to ensure the safety of the power plant, such as security access zones, and security staffing. To talk about security measures on a more upscale level, the power plants are tested to endure the attack of a bomb and a plane attack. All the same, some may suggest that terrorists might not target the actual power plant itself rather they would target the storage facilities where the waste might be stored. The argument against this would be that these storage bunkers are securely tight and that their biggest defense would be their size. Theoretically, if a nuclear weapons were to be stolen by radicals it would be impossible for them to detonate it without the proper knowledge to unlock many password mechanisms. One of the most up to date security measures is cybersecurity, nuclear plants must have security plans that describe how computers and communication systems are protected from
