The way that an artist pays attention to his or her painting or drawing is similar to making up an entire speech. The different stages of making the speech from brainstorming topics to making a presentation outline are not achieved without effort. Though in some speeches, the topic is more or less confined such as the informative speech on my major, I do believe the way of going about making a speech is valuable.

This is especially useful to my experience since I am involved in a research class at Howard Community College funded by the National Science Foundation, which has granted me a scholarship for two years at H.C.C. Thus, it’s very crucial to me that I can present my research and observations as well as conclusions in an appropriate manner to my fellow researchers and my mentors. Being able to speak boldly in front of the whole class has given me an edge, in my opinion, which helps me to prepare better for presentations. Persuading my audience about my findings is also an important role and therefore, the Persuasive Speech assignment was a very enlightening assignment as it enabled me to look at both sides of the argument as well as looking up important statistics or facts which are important too when it comes to research. For instance, while looking at why schools should not require uniforms, I looked at studies which not only highlighted the negligible impact of uniforms on grades, but also noted other positive aspects in terms of attendance and graduation. Thus, I learnt to be objective and fair in my research evaluation and not simply using only facts that favor my
