This is a story what the girl challenged to the maori tradition. She tried to change the mind df her grandpa and her brave resonate with us. Also, by watching this movie we can have a chance of having a glimpse the real maori life.
The site is a maori village at the seaside of New Zealand, named Whangara. In this village, the legend that the brave Pikea straddled the whale and came to this place from Hawaiki - the descendant of him is Maori long ago. Also, a man became the chief and whakapapa was handed down. ‘Whale Rider’ starts from the birth of a girl whose grandfather is the chief.

‘Men are stronger than women, and girl can’t be the chief’, these were kept from long ago and he did, too. However the heroin tried to change the tradition and challenged to her grandpa. She loved him and wanted to be the chief, of course he likes an only grandchild, but he refused her to be it. Under such circumstances, can we do to keep challenging him without giving up? Maybe we can’t do like her, and should learn from her.
I was impressed by this movie and hope to recommend ‘Whale Rider’ to teenager because she had the strong heart not to give up. These days, we give up ourselves to know that we can’t to do something. However, Paikea knew that, but she tried by herself. I respect her and want to be like her. Therefore,I think that young people should be follow her thinking. The other reason to recommend to teens, we can know maori cultures. They probably don’t know them well and this movie will become a good chance to increase our knowledge. Also, I hope to watch it again because the heroin made a deep impression on
